Is sickness costing you more than you think?

Did you know the typical office desk is home to more than 10 million bacteria (yeah, you read that right… 10 million). That’s 400 times more than a toilet seat.

A cleanlier and more hygienic environment is not only a nice place for your employees to work in for 8 hours a day, but it also means a significantly reduced risk of sick days and overall increase in productivity.

People who attended work while sick and spread it across the office costs the Australian economy approximately $34 billion each year through lost productivity (🤯). Sick days alone cost $7 billion each year. Not convinced you need a cleaner? Read on…

American researchers conducted a 13 month survey that found 4,800 surfaces in office buildings were “officially dirty”. Taps, microwaves, computer keyboards, phones and fridge doors being amongst the dirtiest of surfaces. This is especially a concern for open-plan and shared-desk work places. Workers in these spaces have a 62% higher incidence of sickness than those in private or shared cellular offices.

Although we know you do your best to reduce the risk such as putting up signs to encourage good employee etiquette when it comes to hygiene, it’s been found that fewer than half of employees actually comply.

On top of all this, you have the health impacts on unkept and unhygienic workspaces. Viruses can survive for hours or in some cases, even months on surfaces like phones and computer equipment. In another study on the effect of regular cleaning found that a cleaner office resulted in 12.5% decrees in sick days and reported increase in productivity.
